The goal of prehospital emergency medical care is DEFINITIVE CARE for the patient as rapidly and safely as the situation indicates with no deterioration of their condition and, when possible, in an improved condition. BLS (Basic Life Support) units shall deliver their patients who will benefit from ALS (Advanced Life Support) care to this higher level of care as soon as possible. This may be accomplished either by intercepting with an ALS unit or by transport to an appropriate hospital, whichever can be effected more quickly.

Pound Ridge transports emergency patients to nearby NY and CT hospitals including: 

• Northern Westchester Hospital

• Norwalk (CT) Hospital

• Stamford (CT) Hospital

• Westchester Medical Center

ALS (Advanced Life Support) Paramedics using flycars are provided by Westchester EMS (includes Northern Westchester Hospital Center) through service contracts with the Town of Pound Ridge.

Also,  STAT Flight helicopters are also available for serious trauma cases and can respond in minutes to accident scenes throughout the 5,000-square-mile seven-county Hudson Valley region. 

This Ambulance Corps is funded mostly from tax-deductible contributions and is a 501c3 non-profit organization (EIN 13-6196284 and NYS EX-127820).

Any bequests, grants, and memorials are always welcomed and can provide a lasting endowment for prompt and outstanding quality of care for emergency medical services to our community.

About 1 in 5 residents normally respond to the PRVAC appeal for contributions during the year-end holiday season. We truly appreciate the generosity of these contributions which directly support our emergency medical facilities, supplies, and training materials.

Training Requirements
Skills include:
Basic course pursuant to DOT EMT National Standard Curriculum, plus defibrillation.

Hours of training:
About 130 hours, based on new EMT-B curriculum.

Certification requirements:
 At least 18 years of age, successfully complete the course, pass the state practical examination, pass the New York State EMT certifying examination.

Recertification requirements:  Must recertify every 3 years.
